Du Plessis coach blames Chimaev and refereeing for title loss
Morne Visser, coach to Dricus du Plessis, says the South African lost his middleweight belt at UFC 319 last August after an opponent spent much of the fight maintaining top control in what Visser describes as a "blanket" strategy, according to reports.
Visser reportedly singled out refereeing for failing to stand the fight up more often and called the issues simple to fix in training.
He said the team will change preparation to protect Du Plessisโs strengths on the feet and in the clinch so he is not held down again.
The bout reportedly went the distance and ended with Du Plessis surrendering the title to the previously unbeaten challenger.
Talk of an immediate rematch is being discussed but both fighters remain unbooked; see the original report for more details.
