Pimblett insists interim belt is legitimate
Liverpool's Paddy Pimblett says he will be the rightful UFC lightweight champion if he defeats Justin Gaethje at UFC 324 on January 24 in Las Vegas.
He dismissed doubts about holding an interim belt while the undisputed titleholder is unavailable, arguing the division needs an active champion.
Pimblett also suggested Gaethje may be motivated more by the payday than the strap, saying the veteran has lost some of his previous hunger.
Pimblett enters the fight on a multi-fight winning streak and is ranked inside the top five; Gaethje is also a top contender and last fought in March 2025.
Current champion Ilia Topuria is reportedly out until spring due to personal legal matters, and a unification bout with the winner is being discussed.
