Usman says he's best test for Makhachev

Kamaru Usman said in Las Vegas on Jan. 27, 2026 that he believes he is the toughest matchup for UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev.

The former welterweight titleholder said he is pursuing another title shot after a decision win over Joaquin Buckley last June and has been publicly pushing for the opportunity.

He reportedly confirmed there have been no formal negotiations yet and noted other names, including Michael Morales and Ian Machado Garry, are also being discussed for the champion's first defense.

Usman added he would be ready to step in on short notice if the promotion chooses him.

No official fight has been announced as of this report.
